Green Supply Chain Strategy

Towards a Reinvention of Rail Freight in the Era of Agile Logistics

Sustainable rail freight transport has historically held a strategic position… However, in an age of accelerated globalization, supply chain digitalization, and ecological imperatives, its traditional model is showing signs of strain.

01

The Logic of Mass Consolidation

Based on fixed schedules and regular shuttles, this model—while economically viable for constant flows—is now proving ill-suited to meet growing needs for flexibility, visibility, and client commitment. The lack of operational synchronization between the different links of the chain (upstream transport, terminals, rail, downstream transport) leads to major inefficiencies: delays, empty runs, lack of traceability, and customer dissatisfaction.

03

Interoperable Ecosystem

It is not simply about optimizing the existing system, but rather building an interoperable ecosystem where real-time digitalization, smart logistics contracts, and collaborative governance replace the archaic logic of isolated reporting.

02

In this Context

The RSR CARGO project proposes a systemic revolution: shifting to a "client-first" model based on guaranteed appointments, committing all supply chain stakeholders to reliable, punctual, and transparent delivery.

04

The Transformation

ESSENTIAL TO: • Meet the demands of modern logistics,

• Gain competitiveness against road transport,

• Actively contribute to the decarbonization goals set by the European Union.

Objective of this Study

To demonstrate the necessity of this paradigm shift, analyze current bottlenecks, propose a virtuous operational path, and structure the conditions for the success of new rail logistics.
